PRESS RELEASE

PNP Caraga steps up fight against Criminality, Insurgency through Project “Combatant Mentors”

Camp Col Rafael C Rodriguez, Butuan City------ As Police Regional Office (PRO) 13 continue to intensify its anti-criminality and anti-insurgency campaign and efforts against the covid-19 pandemic, the police force finds another way to better serve and protect the people, especially the children and the underprivileged, through mentoring in far-flung areas called Project “Combatant Mentors” or “Mandirigmang Magtutudlo”.

The project was conceptualized when after the conduct of combat operation, the personnel of 2nd Surigao del Norte Provincial Mobile Force Company passed through a barangay where children were having a hard time in answering their modules and their parents could not guide them due to work and most of them do not know how to read and write.

POLICE BRIGADIER GENERAL ROMEO M CARAMAT, JR, PRO13 Director, disclosed that the objective of the police force in taking the initiative to launch the “Combatant Mentors” Project is to help combat poverty, illiteracy, criminality, and insurgency through educating and mentoring the children especially those who are living in far-flung areas.

Thus, on the morning of October 18, 2020, PNP personnel of 2nd Surigao del Norte PMFC conducted mentoring in the hinterlands of Sitio Tigasi, Barangay Dugsangon, Bacuag, Surigao del Norte where Police Officers provided assistance to elementary and high school students in answering their modules.

The happiness of the children for the selfless act of service of the members of PNP Caraga can be seen in their eyes as their smiles were hidden under face masks. The children expressed their gratitude to Caraga cops by showing their willingness to learn and paying attention during the mentoring.

“One of the root causes of the problems in insurgency is illiteracy. Through the conduct of the “Combatant Mentors” Project, the police force in Caraga will help the teachers and parents in mentoring and educating the children especially those who are living in the mountains. Educating these children will spare them from the deceptive works of the Communist Terrorist Group whose targets of recruitment are the vulnerable sectors which include the children, the poor and the underprivileged,” the region’s top cop disclosed.
