Manhunt ops intensified against suspect tagged in stabbing incident in Butuan City

Police Brigadier General Gilberto DC Cruz, Caraga Police Director, has ordered Butuan City Police Office (BCPO) to conduct intensive manhunt operation against the suspect on the stabbing incident that killed a media practitioner around 10:00AM on Black Saturday, April 20.

The follow-up investigation conducted by Butuan City Police Station 1 resulted in the identification of the suspect as ULATING MACARAMPAT BARAPANGCAT a.k.a. OLA SARANSAMEN, male, 33 years old, dispatcher, and resident of Purok 6, Narra Road, Barangay New Society Village, Butuan City.

A Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) headed by Police Lieutenant Colonel Glenn C Sampaga, Deputy City Director for Operations of BCPO, was immediately activated to look after the case.

Francisco Patindol, 52 years old, married, Radio Commentator of DXJM-Butuan City, and recently residing in Montilla Street, Barangay San Ignacio, Butuan City, was stabbed with a knife hitting the left side of his chest.

The victim together with his companion was in Narra Road, Barangay New Society Village, particularly beside Alba’s Copier Center, when the drunk suspect approached them and without any apparent reason, stabbed the victim.

The victim was brought to Manuel J. Santos Hospital, Butuan City for immediate treatment but was declared dead around 12:35PM of same day.

“We already identified witnesses and a case of murder will be filed against the suspect who is now subject for manhunt operation. We are using all available resources to track down the suspect to give justice to the victim and his family,” PBGEN Cruz said.

PRO13 tops Crime Solution Efficiency, 2 Quarters in a row

Police Regional Office (PRO) 13 had the most number of crimes solved in the fourth quarter of 2018 and in the first quarter of 2019, topping the Crime Solution Efficiency (CSE) among the 17 police regional offices nationwide.

According to Police Colonel James T Goforth, Chief of the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division (RIDMD), in the last quarter of 2018, PRO13 had the highest CSE rating at 86.19% followed by the National Capital Region Police Office with 86.07% as second and PRO4A with 79.32% as third.

While in the first quarter of 2019, PRO13 had the highest CSE rate at 89.39%, followed by the PRO11 with 85.41% as second, and PRO1 with 83.01% as third.

The results came from Crime Research and Analysis Center of the Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management, Camp Crame, Quezon City.

For the period October 1 to December 31, 2018, the total crime volume in the region reached 2259 comprised of 406 index crimes and 1,853 non-index crimes. Out of 2,259 crime volume, 1,947 crime incidents were solved by the police units.

While for the period January 1 until March 31 of this year, the RIDMD has recorded a total of 2112 total crime volume comprised of 355 index crimes and 1,757 non-index crimes. Out of 2112 crime volume, 1888 crime incidents were solved.

“This is a result of collaborative efforts of the PNP, other law enforcement agencies and all stakeholders with the active support of the community. Rest assured that the fight against criminality and threats do not end here. We will continue to strengthen our anti-criminality campaign as well as our crime-solving efforts to improve the peace and order and ensure the safety and security of all Caraganons,” said Police Brigadier General Gilberto DC Cruz, PRO 13 Director.

Caraga police force welcomes sunrise of Black Saturday through “Bisiklita Iglesia”

The police force of Police Regional Office 13 led by the PRO13 Director, Police Brigadier General Gilberto DC Cruz, together with bike enthusiasts of Butuan City and Agusan del Norte province, welcomed the sunrise of Black Saturday today, April 20, through conduct of church visitation activity dubbed as “Bisiklita Iglesia”.

More than a hundred bikers composed of bike enthusiasts from PNP, Butuan City and Agusan del Norte Biker’s Club, Church Leaders and civilians participated in the said activity. The participants gathered in front of Camp Col Rafael C Rodriguez in Barangay Libertad, Butuan City around 5 o’clock in the morning and tracked an almost 30-km route.

Churches visited during Bisiklita Iglesia were Santo Nino Shrine in Barangay Libertad, Immaculate Concepcion Parish in Barangay Villa Kananga, San Vicente Ferrer Church in Barangay San Vicente, Saint Joseph Cathedral in E. Luna Street, Birhen sa Kasilak Mindanao Shrine in Barangay Bading, Holy Redeemer Church in Barangay Holy Redeemer, and Saint Ignatius de Loyala Chapel inside PRO13 camp, all of Butuan City.

Participants visited churches to reflect and pray in every station. The visiting churches or the Visita Iglesia is part of Holy Week tradition among Filipino Roman Catholics which started during the time of Philip Neri in the year 1553.

RD Cruz thanked all the participants for their support and commitment to Caraga police force towards peace and development through conduct of various activities.

“Aside from strengthening our anti-criminality and anti-drugs campaign, the police force in Caraga is keen on strengthening the four PNP core values – Maka-Diyos, Maka-tao Makakalikasan and Makabansa,” said RD Cruz.
